The Alpha reciprocating blade product development spanned over 24 months to ensure each blade met the highest quality, reliability and durability standards. Our in-house product testing department conducted all the testing in the same way in a "real environment" to achieve accurate results.

Testing focused on the critical variables that are important to the product user such as longevity and the quality of the cut in various materials with large sampling groups.

The NEW Alpha recip range is available carded and bulk packed. Considerable effort has been put into the structure and hierarchy of the card designs to ensure the user can clearly, easily and simply identify the correct blade for their requirements.

With selecting reciprocating blades, there are a few key questions to ask:

  • What are the material/s being cut? Noting if it is a single material, or a combination of materials.
  • What is the thickness of the materials being cut?

Answering these questions will help you know what blade features to consider.


TPI (Teeth Per Inch)

  • This most directly relates to the material thickness being cut
  • Generally the thinner the material, the higher the TPI. The thicker the material, the lower the TPI
  • As a rule of thumb it is good to have 3 teeth in the material at any time

Tooth Geometry

  • This relates to the material being cut
  • DESTRUCTOR Demolition blades have a special “Nail Guard” tooth geometry – This stops nails getting stuck between the teeth and breaking them
  • RIPPA Timber blades have a very aggressive tooth geometry, designed to quickly clear wood shavings to stop clogging
  • Most other recip blades have a “milled and wavy” tooth geometry, giving the best combination of cutting speed, clearance and quality over a wide range of materials

Blade Thickness

  • This relates to the type of work the user is undertaking
  • Thick blades are more suited to demolition where the user is working fast cutting many materials. It can also be important in heavy metal cutting where a straight cut is important
  • Thinner blades are more suited to thinner materials, also where a curve cut may be required

Blade Shape & Height

  • This relates to the type of work the user is undertaking
  • Some blades feature “plunge cutting” tapered end designs to allow for plunge cutting in soft materials like timber and plastic
  • Tall blades are more rigid and more suited to straight cutting
  • Short blades are less rigid and suited to curve cutting

Blade Length

  • This relates to the material being cut.
  • It is advisable to allow a minimum of 50mm additional blade length to the thickness of the material being cut to allow for the reciprocating motion of the blade
